SHADING EFFECT ON PANELS

  • IV – Curve:

  • Heat affects Voltage - V

  • Light affects Current – A

  • W = V X A

  • If one Panel – 250W

  • Other Panel – 125W

  • Current wants to Flow From a High to a Low Voltage Cell – “Bottle neck”

  • Current is forced through the Shaded Cells causing them to HEAT up.

  • Electricity wants to follow path of least resistance

  • Bypass Diode installed will disconnect the shaded panel

IV CURVE & understanding MPPT

  • Maximum power point (Mpp) is the point where the panel is producing the most energy.

  • The HIGHER the panel Temperature ie: the warmer the panel, Curve moves LEFT and produces LESS VOLTAGE.

  • The LESS LIGHT the panel is exposed to; Curve moves DOWN and produces LESS CURRENT.

PV Panels

  • PV CELLS are Combined to create a PV MODULE

  • PV MODULES are Connected in SERIES to Create a PV STRING.

  • PV STRINGS are Connected in PARALLEL to Create a PV ARRAY.
